Simultaneously hopeful and sorrowful, simple and complex, Ema Jean’s music will surely take you on a remarkable trip. Dreamy, meditative and subtly intense with ever-shifting guitar patterns and vocal melodies, her songs pose questions about identity, belonging, freedom, conflict, grief, despair and joy.
Originally from Montreal, Ema has travelled extensively and reinvented herself many times along the way. Constantly evolving and pushing creative boundaries through her work, she has captivated audiences worldwide with her unique performances and heartfelt songs. Her eclectic sound draws inspiration from jazz, pop, grunge and international folk music, creating a distinctive voice that resonates with fans across borders.
Ema has released 3 successful independent albums, supported by a dedicated international following. Her sophomore release, Room for Fascination, debuted with a sold-out show in Montreal. Her single “Telephone Wires” has garnered over 300,000 plays on Spotify, while “Be My Lover” won Best Original Composition at the Hudson Music Festival in 2015, judged by Coral Egan.
Raised in a household of artists, Ema first performed at the Wild Roots Folk Festival at the age of 9 and was playing solo shows in Montreal by her early teens. At 21, she pursued formal training at the University of North Texas where she was the recipient of the Addison Jazz Scholarship. During an exchange program at the Liceo Conservatory in Barcelona, Ema cultivated a deep connection to Spain’s rich cultural heritage, adding a new dimension to her artistry. She has since performed at renowned venues such as Upstairs and Jamboree and collaborated with some of the best session musicians in Montreal and internationally. Her career has taken her across the globe, with performances in Dallas, New York City, Agadir, Barcelona, and Seville.
Ema is currently presenting the music from her last album, Emanuelle Kami (coproduced with Pau Romero in Barcelona at BeatGarden Studios), in solo and duo format, along with a string of new songs that will be part of her upcoming EP.
